  • River City Waterway Alliance – Ali’s Friday Arcade Creek Cleanup at American River College

River City Waterway Alliance – Ali’s Friday Arcade Creek Cleanup at American River College

    08:30 -11:30
    2024.08.02

This should be our last Arcade Creek Mop-Up of Arcade Creek behind ARC’s Nature and Wildlife Sanctuary!
Please meet at ARC’s North Parking Lot, accessed from Myrtle Avenue (near Kohler Creek). We will then caravan to our parking spot near the Horticulture Center. We will start PROMPTLY at 8:30 am so please arrive early so you don’t miss the caravan to our parking spot deeper into the campus. After our safety chat, we will continue to clean creek channel and along the top of the banks. We expect some sections of the creek will have water in this stretch.
RCWA is so happy to continue partnering with Ali and Arcade Creek Adopt-A-Creek Project to continue cleaning Arcade Creek. Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. The creek is fairly dry making trash and debris easily accessible and visible. Rain boots or sturdy shoes are nice to protect from sand and fox tails and long shirt/pants are ideal to protect from the sun and any scratches & scrapes.
This event will range in difficulty from easy to difficult, with some pretty easy pickins’ around the flat grassy upper banks.
RCWA will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. Recommended (but not required) boots or rain boots.
As with all events shared by RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose” as Bill Templin always says!

  • River City Waterway Alliance – South Lake Tahoe Cleanup at Johnson Meadow

River City Waterway Alliance – South Lake Tahoe Cleanup at Johnson Meadow

    10:30 -15:00
    2024.08.03

We are so excited to offer an RCWA field trip to South Lake Tahoe for a fun, getaway event! Please accommodate for drive time to SLT for this site location.
We will be visiting Johnson Meadow and cleaning hidden trash left by encampments and litterbugs that have come and gone. Our tour guide will show us the natural beauty and educate us on its history. We will find a nice, scenic location to have a picnic out in the beautiful area and continue to scout and remove trash that has plagued this location. If we finish early, we will caravan to a second scenic meadow near Trout Creek and a granite Indian Grinding Rock, where we will wander for trash to search and destroy.
Please pack a lunch that you can carry in a backpack and a towel/blanket to sit on, as we will be wondering the many trails and footpaths made.
Shovels may not be needed, but a cultivator and trash grabber will be. What we find and bag will need to be hauled back to our starting point … however far that may be.
The cleanup will end when we want it to, maybe earlier or later. It will be a relaxing and enjoyable day for us all. These areas are fairly flat with moderate walking.
There is water in the Upper Trucker River and Trout Creek, so bring a towel and extra clothes if you may be so inclined to take a dip!
Close toed shoes or hiking boots, pants, and a long shirt may be preferred, but shorts and a t-shirt should be fine. A change of clothes would be good to have on hand.
RCWA will provide bags, but please bring along your grabbers, buckets, cultivators, rakes and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

River City Waterway Alliance – Arcade Creek Cleanup at Pasadena Ave (3.0)

    08:30 -11:30
    2024.08.09

We’ve made so much progress upstream in Ali’s adopted section that we are moving downstream to Pasadena Avenue to continue our Maintenance Mode operation! We will retreat downstream slightly and work upstream (hopefully all the way to College Oak Drive where we started our last cleanup in the area several weeks ago)!
For this cleanup, we will park on a local neighbor’s property on Pasadena Avenue (with permission of course). Please note, we will park on the NORTH side of the creek – there is no vehicle bridge over the creek from Winding Way so please check your directions closely before embarking.
We will start PROMPTLY at 8:30 am so please arrive a few mins early to get settled and unpacked. After our safety chat, we will continue to clean the dry creek channel and along the top of the banks, making our way upstream. Our progress in this area has been unprecedented!
RCWA is so happy to continue partnering with Arcade Creek Adopt-A-Creek Project to continue cleaning Arcade Creek. We will be starting earlier due to the heat. Please bring lots of WATER and only do what you are comfortable doing. The creek is fairly dry making trash and debris easily accessible and visible. River City Waterway Alliance – Ali’s Friday Arcade Creek Clean up at ARC

    08:30 -11:30
    2024.08.16

Please join Alison for this cleanup of Arcade Creek near American River College. RCWA is continuing to partner with Arcade Creek – Adopt A Creek Project to focus on another infamously trashed stretch of this 16.2 mile creek.
Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need. Please park on the residential streets, but be sure not to block any driveways or garbage cans.
We will park on Valhalla, then cautiously cross Winding Way to our cleanup spot. From there, we will follow the trash, removing litter and bulk items both in the creek and adjacent thereto. This cleanup location has some challenging access spots into the creek and may require a rope to get into the channel, however, there are some flat spots as well for easy pickin’.
The event will range in difficulty from moderate to hard and may not be suitable for children under the age of 16. There will be something for almost everyone as we will be cleaning in the creek and up above, on land.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. We expect there will be water in some sections of the creek, fairly deep in a few spots. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

We will be returning to this stretch, just upstream from where we stopped last Saturday behind Caliber Collision. We will be focusing on the trash and debris within the creek channel and welcome anyone who would like to clean along the top banks.

    2024.08.21

Please join Ali and crew as we return to Arcade Creek behind the Hidden Oaks Apartments. This will be our first visit here since April when the channel had significant amounts of water. Well, it is now dry and we want to see how well we did poking and culling around in the water during our prior 11 visits here during the wet season!
We will continue to partner with Arcade Creek – Adopt A Creek Project to focus on another infamously trashed stretch of this 16.2 mile creek. We will meet at the same apartment complex where we performed numerous cleanups earlier this year.
We will park in the SOUTHERN most parking lot in the Hidden Oaks Apartment Complex, gear up, and walk to Arcade Creek. Please arrive on time as the complex is fairly expansive and the route to our meeting spot could be confusing.
Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need.

This portion of the Woodlake section of the American River Parkway is undergoing a huge facelift. Camps have been removed and large debris has been removed by County Parks. However, this area is once again in need of RCWA volunteer love.
We will meet up at the parkway gate at the Northgate off-ramp from Highway 160 (eastbound). We will drive to a nearby parking area. The gate will be closed, so be sure to be there before 8 am. The area is mostly flat with easy access.

  • Elk Grove Anti-Trash Volunteers – Bufferlands Collaboration Clean-up 10.0

    Elk Grove Anti-Trash Volunteers – Bufferlands Collaboration Clean-up 10.0

    08:30 -12:00
    2024.08.24

Note new start time to beat the heat.
Picking up where we left off in July, we will hike a ways (or possibly shuttle) from our access area. We will continue to move upstream along Morrison Creek.
Join us as we continue our collaboration with EGAT, River City Waterway Alliance (RCWA) and Sacramento Area Sewer District to clean up the Bufferlands. Saturday’s event continues our efforts to address the trash and debris buildup at Sac Sewer’s Bufferlands ecosystem.
Have you heard of this beautiful ecosystem? Fed by several creeks, the Bufferlands can also become a graveyard for trash and debris washed down from upstream storm water systems and encampments.
This event is our 10th in a series of cleanups (3rd this year), and our goal is to remove as much trash from the Bufferlands and promote efforts to prevent trash from entering the ecosystem in the future.
Please arrive *prior* to 8:30 am. The best place to meet will be in the furthest southwest corner of the Delta Shores Shopping Center parking lot—immediately west of the “At Home” store. There is plenty of space to park in case people arrive early. From there, we will either caravan or carpool further into the site. Latecomers will not be accommodated as gates will be locked after we enter.
If anybody needs to leave early, that will be fine, as we have a way to depart through the gates.
Volunteers who have yet to participate with RCWA will need to arrive early to sign waivers, and everyone will need to sign the event sheet.
Please bring your own canteen into the cleanup location. Water and Porta Potty will be available on site.
The event will range in difficulty from easy to advanced and might not be suitable for children under the age of 16. There will be plenty of hard-core badgering in the muddy creek (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain and areas next to the creek.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. As there is water in the creek, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Stay tuned for updates to this event as it’s hot weather dependent, thank you! Start time might change so please indicate “going” to stay updated please.

River City Waterway Alliance – Arcade Creek Cleanup at Norwood (31.0)

    08:30 -11:30
    2024.08.25

**** Despite designated parking location, please meet up top on the levee near the southEAST gate as we will caravan to the cleanup location. In order to get through the gate with the group, please make sure you arrive prior to 8:30 a.m. ****
Our apologies, but this will be an 18 and Over Event due to numerous active encampments in the area.
We will continue removing the piles of trash in this stretch of Arcade Creek in this area. This event will be conducted in coordination with our friends at Forensiclean who have graciously agreed to haul off all of the trash and encampment debris collected during this event!
Sturdy boots, long sleeves and long pants are recommended due to thorns and stickers on the vegetation. The creek bed is dry. This will be an easy to difficult level event with uneven terrain.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose” as Bill Templin says.
    Thank you!
