We will meet by the Duck Pond and we have plenty of city supplied trash grabbers and trash bags. We will also have a dumpster available to fill up while we are picking things up around our community. Wear good walking shoes, bring some water and your gardening gloves
Location: Arcade Park near Omni Drive (5613 Omni Dr.)
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Difficulty Level: 4 – 5
A group of dedicated Carmichael residents meets each Friday to focus on cleaning up Arcade Creek and the surrounding area. Difficulty level for this event is between 4-5. Water levels vary and the embankment is steep.
This week the group will be meeting near Omni Drive and entering the creek at that location. There are many heavy items to remove from the creek.
Come join in Environmental Stewardship by removing roadside litter and assessing the litter collected by the use of a mobile survey application.
We aim to meet at the A Robinson Recycle Center in the Florin Towne Center parking lot. The goal is to collect roadside litter for an aggregated estimate of litter by category.
Each bag collected by volunteers will be emptied onto a tarp for an assessment and then disposed of into the proper receptacle. Data is entered as a total of all the bags assessed.
We encourage all active community members and college students to attend.
Come join high school students clean up around Luther Burbank and also brainstorm litter abatement ideas afterwards. The clean up will occur from 3 – 5 p.m. with a forum to follow to discuss initiatives of the upcoming Florin Road Community Beautification Project.
Please join us for a light trash pick at Southside Park in downtown Sacramento. Coffee and donuts provided. Much appreciate your support. Bring buckets and grabbers. Meet great neighbors. Meet in Playground area.
Arcade Creek running by Stock Ranch Nature Preserve needs some SPIU love. The creek is lined with trash trees and clogged with trash dams. There are multiple shopping carts and tires to be extracted. Pallets as well.
The creek top rim has uneven ground with thick brush. Watch out for poison oak. The trash is in the sandy creek bed and in trees/bushes that line the creek. There are many down tree trunks in the creek that you may need to climb over or under. Waders are recommended. Although, some spots may be reached with boots.
Bags will be provided. Please bring grabbers, gloves, buckets, rubber boots, waders, rope, cultivators, and vests.
Plenty of easy safe parking near the site. Please park on the side of home at 7452 Hespera Way, Citrus Heights.
This is a level 4+ cleanup event on a part of the river that gets little foot traffic other than fisherman. Terrain is steep hillside, wild riverbank and slippery rocks. There is some wading involved and thick underbrush in some areas. There are some limited trails along the water, but waders or really tall boots will be needed to navigate the bank.
There is ample street parking available right by the easement/trail we’ll use to access the river.
The plan is to gather, bag and stack what we can find by the river for pickup by boat the next day.
Location: Skate Park at 28th and B streets in Sutter’s Landing Park

Hurley Way along Encina High School is disgusting, and a lot of the debris ends up in the slough nearby — Chicken Ranch Slough. As are the unused sports fields along Wayland Ave at the fence line.
What you need: Gloves, grabbers, bucket, and maybe an iron rake would help.
Where to park: I’m going to ask the high school admin if we can park in their lot, but for now, I suggest parking along Hurley Way or on the side streets of Wayland Ave or Clinton Ave (Not to be confused with the same streets off of Arden Way that lead to Encina. You will need to drive down Hurley to get to the side streets there, and park in the neighborhood.)
Where to meet: In front of the (locked) side gate to the soccer/football field adjacent to Hurley Way. We will do a meet/greet/intro there and then clean up along Hurley Way, then migrate by vehicle or walk through the neighborhood to the backside of Encina to clean up the area by the unused baseball field. The back gate should be unlocked.
Please note details of where to park may change based on whether or not I’m able to get permission from school admin regarding access!
Also, please note I do not want to disturb any camps on Dealynn Ave.
Let’s wrap up 2022 with a trash grabbing, cart pulling, smashing good time. Please join SPIU at Stock Ranch Nature Preserve on the 31st. Let’s finish what we started.
