River City Waterway Alliance - American River Cleanup at The Pipe Bridge

    09:00 -12:00
    2025.02.06

If you have ever crossed the river on the Sacramento Northern Bikeway Trail Bridge (the Pipe Bridge), you have probably seen all the trash in the river and along the trail on the south side near Blue Diamond. After making a huge dent recently, we are returning to tackle more trashy spots.
We will focus on the steep, rocky river banks, where no one else will go. There will also be plenty of easy trash nearby for those not able to brave the steep banks. There should be something for everyone.
Sturdy, waterproof footwear would be helpful but sturdy shoes/boots should also work just fine. This will be a difficult level event with a moderate walk.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 14 years old. Minors older than 14 are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
In an effort improve access to the cleanup site, we have permission to park on top of the levee. At 8:45 am, we will form a caravan starting at 1633 Dreher Street (located off North 16th Street just before Capitol Casino) and drive in together. The gate will be closed and locked at 9:00 am sharp, so please be early.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy waterproof footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. If you have a cultivator or shovel, those could also be handy. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to enter any streams or rivers. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose”!, as Bill Templin says. Thank you! 💚

River City Waterway Alliance - Ali's Friday Arcade Creek Cleanup at Keoncrest

    09:00 -12:00
    2025.02.07

We will be returning to this stretch for our second winter maintenance mode cleanup. We will be focusing on the trash and debris within the creek channel and welcome anyone who would like to clean along the top banks.
There will be water in most stretches of the channel, but boots should be good, except for a few deeper pools of water. We will be meeting along Keoncrest and entering behind the 4-plexes.
This cleanup will have some challenging access spots into the creek and may require a rope to get into the channel, however, there are some flat spots as well for easy pickin’.
The event will range in difficulty from moderate to hard and will not be suitable for children under the age of 14.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy WATERPROOF footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

Elk Grove Anti-Trash Volunteers - Drainage Zone Cleanup in Old Town

    09:00 -11:00
    2025.02.08

Date changed to Feb 8 due to heavy rain predicted for Feb 1 (muddy conditions also caused the postponement).
Part 4 will continue the series of clearing trash from the drainage zone that parallels the RxR.
Less trashy than the previous cleanups, but still worth it.
We will head north and south of EG Blvd, and may also give some TLC to the streets.
We will meet in the small parking lot off the Grove Street Alley next to the RXR tracks.
See comments for a prelude video.
Elk Grove is worth the work!
New to cleanups? Please arrive early to get signed in and get gear. If you have supplies, please bring your own gloves, buckets, bags, but we have items for you. Buckets, gloves, grabbers, vests, bags.
Please wear appropriate clothing, boots 🥾 or closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, hats, and bring your own water.
All cleanups are done at your own risk, but safety first! Our trash safety talk starts promptly at 9:00 am.
    See you soon!!

River City Waterway Alliance - Steelhead Creek Cleanup at Del Paso Road

    09:30 -12:30
    2025.02.08

We are excited to partner with Councilmember Lisa Kaplan and her office for this HUGE community cleanup of another trashed section of Steelhead Creek.
This cleanup series is organized by RCWA, Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, Dr. Roland Brady and Crystal Tobias (Friends of Steelhead Creek), Sacramento Area Creeks Council, and Reclamation District 1000.
The work site will be on the WEST bank of Steelhead Creek. We will meet at the business park at 4600 Northgate then caravan through a locked levee gate to the cleanup location. PLEASE be on time (early ok) since we have to lock the gate behind us. At 9:30 am SHARP, we will caravan to the cleanup site. Late comers will not be accommodated. Folks that might need to leave early are welcome.
The event will range in difficulty from easy to advanced and may not be suitable for children under the age of 14. There will be plenty of hard-core badgering (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain above the creek. We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. As there is water in the creek, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
