River City Waterway Alliance - Arcade Creek Cleanup at Norwood (17.0)

    09:00 -12:00
    2024.06.01-2024.07.01
This Cleanup will be funded in part by a City of Sacramento Community Action Grant awarded by the Stormwater Quality Improvement Program. We would like to sincerely thank the City of Sacramento.
Our apologies, but this will be an 18 and Over Event due to numerous active encampments in the area.
We will continue to remove piles of trash in this stretch of Arcade Creek. This event will be conducted in coordination with the folks at Forensiclean who have graciously agreed to haul off all of the trash and encampment debris collected from this area!
Sturdy, waterproof boots, long sleeves and long pants are recommended. Folks desiring to enter the creek will need waterproof boots, hip or chest waders. This will be an easy to difficult level event with uneven terrain. RCWA will provide bags, but please bring along your grabbers, buckets, cultivators, rakes, shovels and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose” as Bill Templin says.
    Thank you!

    09:00 -12:00
    2024.06.01

Picking up where we left off (sort of  ), we will meet at Pinkerton Park on June 1 to get an area that needs help once in awhile.
We will fan out in all directions, clean the park, the trails, the creek (mud boots may be needed), and hit Lewis Stein, Michener Way, and West Stockton.
The terrain varies so wear appropriate shoes for slopes and fields.
Elk Grove is worth the work!
New to cleanups? Please arrive early to get signed in and get gear. If you have supplies, please bring your own gloves, buckets, bags, but we have items for you. Buckets, gloves, grabbers, vests, bags.
Please wear appropriate clothing, boots 🥾 or closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, hats, and bring your own water.
All cleanups are done at your own risk, but safety first! Our trash safety talk starts promptly at 9:00 am.
    See you soon!!

River City Waterway Alliance - American River Cleanup at Sunrise Bridge North

    09:00 -12:00
    2024.06.02
We are need to go back to this beautiful section of the American River Parkway to clean many abandoned camps, along steep banks near the Sunrise Bridge, that CoParks have already been through cleaning with the bobcat. We cleaned under the bridge back on 7/9/2023 (https://youtu.be/w4BYBgTg__k). That area needs a little work, but our focus will be working along many trails and hidden areas under thick a tree canopy nearby.
Free parking passes will be available at Sacramento Bar Park river access. We will then hike a short distance to our cleanup site under the bridge. (Directions: Sunrise Blvd, west on Fair Oaks then south on Pennsylvania Ave at River Rat Raft Rentals. This road will take you down to the parkway parking lot)
This area of the river is truly beautiful and an after cleanup dip will refresh us all. Maybe a picnic would be nice.
The areas on the hill will range in difficulty from moderate to hard, and may not be suitable for children under the age of 16, but here will be something for almost everyone in the beautiful areas along the river and picnic areas nearby. Children must be supervised by an adult.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. If there is water in the creek, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose”!, as Bill Templin says. Thank you!

We will park in the Archery range parking lot. Parking passes will be available there. (If the park is still closed we will meet at Jibboom Street entrance).
We will continue cleaning where we left off last time. We will be cleaning trails and camps that have previously been cleared by County staff. Lots of smalls and trash hiding in bramble. This will be an easy hike with lots of trash. Something for everyone in this beautiful section of the river.
