RCWA - Steelhead Creek Weekly Cleanup

    09:00 -12:00
    2024.01.24
We’re moving downstream. Counting trash is finished.
The levee has been cleared of brush and the trash remains. There isn’t money in the budget to clean trash. We will be able to pile trash nearby for county pickup.
We are continuing our work with Friends of Steelhead Creek stewards Dr. Roland Brady and Crystal Tobias to clean this poor, trashed creek.
We will meet at the southwest levee gate of Steelhead Creek at West El Camino, near where we have met before. We will then park nearby on the levee.
Please come out and help with this project. We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, gloves, and hats – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. Entry into the water is always optional.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun, and get some “Exercise with a Purpose” as Bill Templin always says!
    Thank you!

RCWA - Ali's Friday Arcade Crk Cleanup

    09:00 -12:00
    2024.01.26
Please join Alison for this MAINTENANCE MODE cleanup of Arcade Creek near American River College. We will continue to partner with Arcade Creek – Adopt A Creek Project to focus on another infamously trashed stretch of this 16.2 mile creek.
Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need. Please park on the residential streets, but be sure not to block any driveways or garbage cans.
We will park on Cameron Ranch Drive, then cautiously walk along Garfield and downstream to our cleanup spot near the footbridge where we ended last. PLEASE do not park close to driveway entrances or trash cans as a courtesy to local residents.
We will work upstream towards the Garfield bridge. This cleanup location has some challenging access spots into the creek and may require a rope to get into the channel, however, there are some flat spots as well for easy pickin’.
The event will range in difficulty from moderate to hard and may not be suitable for children under the age of 16. There will be something for almost everyone as we will be cleaning in the creek and up above, on land.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. We expect there will be water in the creek, fairly deep in a few spots.. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. The water is quite chilly this time of year. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose”!, as Bill Templin says. Thank you!

RCWA - American River Cleanup w/ Wayne @ Ethan Way

    09:00 -12:00
    2024.01.27
This River City Waterway Alliance cleanup will be co-hosted by Wayne Watts, a long time American River Parkway hero. In fact, Wayne recently received a Certificate of Recognition from Assembly member Kevin McCarty’s office for his amazing 38 years of dedicated stewardship to the parkway.
We will be meeting at the end of Ethan Way near the RV Park behind Cal Expo Gate 12. We will park nearby and hike to the riverfront camps. We will be working on the areas just across the river from Paradise Beach.
Wayne needs help cleaning some of the trashiest areas of his adopted section, mostly left by abandoned encampments and trashy recreationists. We will be removing as much abandoned trash as possible before this area floods and all the trash is swept into the American River.
This is a relaxed to challenging level cleanup with plenty of easy areas nearby. There will also be lots of climbing down steep riverbanks and hauling trash up with ropes. Something for everyone in this beautiful section of the river. RCWA will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
