  • RCWA – Ali & Lila’s Friday Crk Cleanup
    08:30 -11:30
    11/03/2023

Please join Alison and Lilia for this “maintenance mode” cleanup of Arcade Creek near Arcade Creek Park. RCWA is continuing to partner with Arcade Creek – Adopt A Creek Project to focus on another infamously trashed stretch of this 16.2 mile creek.
Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need. Please park on the residential streets, but be sure not to block any driveways or trash cans (Friday is Garbage Day for this neighborhood).
We will begin our cleanup downstream of Garfield Avenue Bridge and will follow the trash, removing litter and bulk items that washed in from this last week’s rains. This cleanup location has some challenging access spots into the creek and may require a rope to get into the channel, however, there are some flat spots as well for easy pickin’.
The event will range in difficulty from moderate to hard and may not be suitable for children under the age of 16. There will be something for almost everyone as we will be cleaning in the creek and up above, on land.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. We expect there will be water in the creek. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose”!, as Bill Templin says. Thank you!

    09:00 -10:30
    11/04/2023

Time to “Hit the Road, Jack”!
We’ve heard that our “favorite” trashy streets need our help!
We’ll even trek over to Sheldon Road as it crosses the freeway (it’s messy).
Park along Auberry Drive across from the Bow Street apartments where we can disperse in different directions to get this area cleaned up.
New to cleanups? Please arrive early to get signed in and get gear. If you have supplies, please bring your own gloves, buckets, bags, but we have items for you. Buckets, gloves, grabbers, vests, bags.
Please wear appropriate clothing, boots   or closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, hats, and bring your own water.
All cleanups are done at your own risk, but safety first! Our trash safety talk starts promptly at 9:00 am.
    See you soon!!

  • RCWA – Steelhead Creek Cleanup @ El Camino (West Side)
    09:00 -12:00
    11/04/2023

With rains already starting, we have decided to double-up on Steelhead Creek cleanups (2 events each week for at least the next two weeks – Weds and Sats). We will continue working downstream from El Camino Avenue along the west bank which we are finding is saturated with trash and encampment debris (see our cleanup post from 11/1/23 for illustration). We will nab as much shoreline trash and encampment debris as possible before it is washed away and/or buried under silt.
We will meet at the southwest levee gate of Steelhead Creek at West El Camino, near where we have met before. We will then park nearby on the levee.
We are continuing our work with Friends of Steelhead Creek stewards Roland Brady and Crystal Tobias to clean poor, trashed creek.
Please come out and help with this project. We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, gloves, and hats – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. Entry into the water is always optional.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

  • RCWA – Arcade Crk Cleanup @ Keoncrest
    09:00 -12:00
    11/05/2023

Please join us for this cleanup of Arcade Creek at Keoncrest Circle, that has been overrun with illegal encampment debris. The window is narrowing before the rains come and fill this creek with water that will flush this debris downstream, leaving a trail of trash in the channel. We want to remove what we can and hope to make this area shine again.
RCWA is continuing to partner with Arcade Creek – Adopt A Creek Project to focus on another infamously trashed stretch of this 16.2 mile creek.
Please park on Keoncrest Circle and we will walk between homes to access the back road where the creek entry point is. Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need. Late-comers are welcome.
We will begin our cleanup on the top bank removing trash and debris and will also clean in the creek and along both sides of the banks. This cleanup location has access spots into the creek and there are lots of flat spots for easy pickin’.
There may be water in the channel. Some areas may be fine with rain boots, while other areas would be fine with shoes. Do only what you are comfortable with. We will pile the debris gathered for the County to remove on Monday.
    11/12/2023
Come join the fun in cleaning the lower bank along the Sacramento river. Over the summer, trash and debris has accumulated along the waterline and we wanna remove it before the rains come and flush it downstream.
We will make our way towards the Tower Bridge, walking along the uneven river rock and riprap. It is difficult to walk on and is challenging. We will use ropes to haul up bags and bulk items to the top of the Promenade, where we will load it into the trailer for disposal.
Please only do what you feel comfortable with and enjoy the unusual scenery of being below the Promenade.
Please park in the free metered parking next to the Embassy Suites Hotel or the free metered parking next to the Crocket Art Museum at O St and 2nd Street. Metered parking is no-charge on Sundays.

Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need. Please park on the residential streets, but be sure not to block any driveways or garbage cans.
We will park on Connecticut Drive, then cautiously walk to our cleanup spot at the creek (either via the nearby back alley there or via Madison Avenue). • RCWA – Bufferlands Collaboration Cleanup 7.0
    09:00 -12:00
    11/25/2023

Due to soggy conditions, November 18 Cleanup postponed to November 25.
👉🏽 Join us as we continue our collaboration with EGAT, River City Waterway Alliance (RCWA) and Regional Sanitation District to clean up the Bufferlands. Saturday’s event continues our efforts to address the trash and debris buildup at Regional Sanitation’s Bufferlands ecosystem.
Have you heard of this beautiful ecosystem? Fed by several creeks, the Bufferlands can also become a graveyard for trash and debris washed down from upstream storm water systems and encampments.
This event is our 7th in a series of cleanups, and our goal is to remove as much trash from the Bufferlands and promote efforts to prevent trash from entering the ecosystem in the future.
Please arrive *prior* to 9:00 am. The best place to meet will be in the furthest southwest corner of the Delta Shores Shopping Center parking lot—immediately west of the “At Home” store. There is plenty of space to park in case people arrive early. From there, we will either caravan or carpool further into the site. Latecomers will not be accommodated as gates will be locked after we enter.
If anybody needs to leave early, that will be fine, as we have a way to depart through the gates.
Volunteers who have yet to participate with RCWA will need to arrive early to sign waivers, and everyone will need to sign the event sheet.
Please bring your own canteen into the cleanup location. Water and Porta Potty will be available on site.
The event will range in difficulty from easy to very advanced and might not be suitable for children under the age of 16. There will be plenty of hard-core badgering (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain and levee next to the creek.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. As there is water in the creek, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Stay tuned for updates to this event as it’s weather dependent, thank you!

  • RCWA – Sacramento River Cleanup @ North Sac County
    09:00 -12:00
    11/26/2023

Please come join the fun while helping clean along a beautiful stretch of the Sacramento River. This will be the 3rd Annual cleanup coordinated by David Ingram and the Garden Highway Community Association.
Over the summer, trash and debris has accumulated along the waterline and upper flood plain and we plan to remove it before the river rises and flushes it downstream. Right now, the river is at its lowest level since October 2022, making conditions optimal for this cleanup.
We will start at the intersection of Garden Highway and Elverta Road, then make our way upriver. The last 2 years we’ve enjoyed exceptional participation which enabled us to cover an entire mile of river. We hope this year’s cleanup will accomplish the same feat!
The event will range in difficulty from easy to hard and is suitable for children 12 years and older as long as they are closely supervised by an adult. The banks could be slippery and there is an abundance of poison oak in areas – both easily avoidable if you choose.
RCWA will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available.
Thank you!
