Pet Waste

When pet waste is improperly disposed of, it can be picked up by stormwater runoff and washed into storm drains then directly to the river without being treated. Let’s work together to protect and enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods and throughout the community for our enjoyment now…and for our children’s enjoyment in the future.

Trash

Litter from sidewalks, streets, parking lots, and nature areas eventually find its way into our rivers. Let’s work together to protect and enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods and throughout the community for our enjoyment now…and for our children’s enjoyment in the future.

    Duration: 3 hr
Public Anyone on or off Facebook
We will be continue our attack on trash and debris lining the bed of Steelhead Creek, both new and old, as we work upstream from the Arden-Garden bridge in the direction of the scores of illegal camps along the banks upstream of the West El Camino bridge.
We will meet on Acoma Street. At 8:30 am SHARP, we will caravan to the cleanup site. Late comers will not be accommodated. Folks that might need to leave early are welcome.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 14 years old. Minors 14 and older are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
There will be plenty of hard-core badgering (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain above the creek. We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy, mud-resistant footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. As there is water in the creek, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on RCWA, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Overall, be safe, have fun and get some “Exercise with a Purpose” as Bill Templin says.

1633 Dreher St, Sacramento, CA 95811-0505, United States
    Duration: 3 hr
Public Anyone on or off Facebook
Due to a concerted effort by RCWA volunteers and Sacramento County Regional Parks, all the heaping piles of trash along the Sacramento Northern Bikeway Trail Bridge (the Pipe Bridge) are quickly vanishing! Nevertheless, there are still a few trashy spots left so we are headed back.
We will focus on the steep, rocky river banks, where no one else will go. There will also be plenty of easy trash nearby for those not able to brave the steep banks. There should be something for everyone.
As with all nearly all of our events, sturdy, waterproof footwear would be helpful but sturdy shoes/boots should also work just fine. Long pants and long-sleeve shirts are highly recommended. This will be a difficult level event with a moderate walk.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 14 years old. Minors 14 and older are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
In an effort improve access to the cleanup site, we have permission to park on top of the levee. At 8:15 am, we will form a caravan starting at 1633 Dreher Street (located off North 16th Street just before Capitol Casino) and drive in together. The gate will be closed and locked at 8:30 am sharp, so please be early.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. If you have a cultivator or shovel, those could also be handy. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to enter any streams or rivers. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

  • Ali’s Friday Arcade Creek Clean Up

Ali’s Friday Arcade Creek Clean Up

    08:30 -11:30
    2025.07.04

    American River College
    Duration: 3 hr
Public Anyone on or off Facebook
Please join Ali and crew as we return to Arcade Creek near American River College to continue our post-winter Maintenance progress, working upstream. We will begin our cleanup at the Winding Way bridge near the ARC stadium. We will park on the east side of the south ARC parking lot (nearest that bridge), then cautiously walk to our cleanup spot. From there, we will follow the trash, removing litter and bulk items both in the creek and adjacent thereto. This cleanup location has some challenging access spots into the creek and may require a rope to get into the channel, however, there are some flat spots as well for easy pickin’. Waders will be helpful.
We will continue to partner with Arcade Creek – Adopt A Creek Project to focus on another infamously trashed stretch of this 17-plus mile creek.
Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need.
The event will range in difficulty from moderate to hard and may not be suitable for children under the age of 14. All minors must be supervised by a responsible adult.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. There will be water in the creek in some sections. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

6306 Garfield Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95841
    Duration: 3 hr
Public Anyone on or off Facebook
We will be returning to Copper Creek for another much-needed cleanup. This tributary flows unabated into Arcade Creek and is filled with trash that lines the bottom of the channel, polluting waterways downstream.
We plan to clean the NORTH side of this area, above Greenback Lane. The area is a dry oak grove and grassy area that has several abandoned encampments, along with a ton of debris in the channel. Lots of loose trash and bulk times in this location. Boots are recommended and waders will not be needed for this cleanup.
Please park in the Quiznos parking lot on the southeast corner of Greenback Lane & Garfield Avenue. We will gather our items and cross the street at the light.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 14 years old. Minors older than 14 are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
Please bring water and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need. This cleanup location has easy access and many flat spots for easy pickings.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy waterproof footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. • Bufferlands Collaboration Clean Up

    Bufferlands Collaboration Clean Up

    09:00 -12:00
    2025.07.13

    Duration: 3 hr
Public Anyone on or off Facebook
Save the date for our second event of 2025 Bufferlands series.
Meetup location will be in the farthest, SW corner of Delta Shores Shopping Center. Look for our cars behind the store called “At Home“. We will gather there and caravan in.
Picking up where we left off in June, we will caravan into the Bufferlands to get close to our access area. We will continue to move downstream and/or upstream along Morrison Creek. Parking will be on a level surface, and we will be working along the shoreline and possibly in the creek. Boots are strongly recommended for protection against weeds, reeds, and should you be in the water, you will want your boots.
There will be an opportunity for those who wish to wear waders, but the mud is rather muddy  . There may also be an opportunity to put the boat in the water to watch Captain Sparrow Ingram and his first mate Fabian pull trickier things out of the water.
👉🏽 Join us as we continue our collaboration with EGAT, River City Waterway Alliance (RCWA) and Sacramento Area Sewer District to clean up the Bufferlands. Sunday’s event continues our efforts to address the trash and debris buildup at Sac Sewer’s Bufferlands ecosystem.
This beautiful ecosystem, fed by several creeks, can also become a graveyard for trash and debris washed down from upstream storm water systems and encampments.
This event is our 15th in a series of cleanups (2nd this year), and our goal is to remove as much trash from the Bufferlands and promote efforts to prevent trash from entering the ecosystem in the future.
Please arrive *prior* to 9:00 am. The best place to meet will be behind At Home in the SW corner of the shopping center. From there, we will either caravan or carpool further into the site. Latecomers will not be accommodated as gates will be locked after we enter.
If anybody needs to leave early, that will be fine, as we have a way to depart through the gates.
If we are near water, anyone with a kayak or canoe is authorized to bring one if they’d like to collect trash from the water in tandem with the trash barge.
Volunteers who have yet to participate with RCWA will need to arrive early to sign waivers, and everyone will need to sign the event sheet.
Please bring your own canteen into the cleanup location. Water and Porta Potty will be available on site.
The event will range in difficulty from easy to advanced and might not be suitable for children under the age of 12. There will be plenty of hard-core badgering in the muddy creek (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain and areas next to the creek.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. As there is water in the creek, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.
Stay tuned for updates to this event as it’s hot weather dependent, thank you! Start time might change so please indicate “going” to stay updated please.
